Mass Offer Campaign

Mass Offer campaigns are a great way to connect to your guests by sending them gifts in the form of redeemables or points. You can choose which guests to target by using segments or locations, and you can track your campaign's effectiveness by setting up a control group.

If you wish to create a Mass Offer campaign with Split Testing, refer to the following documentation: Campaign Split Testing

Create a New Mass Offer Campaign

Before setting up a new Mass Offer campaign, you may first need to create a redeemable (if offering a gift redeemable). If gifting points, a redeemable isn't required. To create a new Mass Offer campaign:

  1. Navigate to Marketing Automation > Campaign Management in your left-hand navigation toolbar.
  2. Click Create Campaign in the upper right corner.
  3. Select Mass Campaign.
  4. Select Yes to include an offer in this campaign.
  5. Click Create.

Step 1 - What

Recurring rewards are not supported in Mass campaigns. See How do I setup a recurring redeemable? for more details.

  1. Enter a name for your campaign in the Name field.
  2. Click the Gift Type drop-down and choose what type of reward the guest will receive for this offer:
    1. For Gift Redeemable
      1. Click the Redeemable Reward drop-down and select the redeemable you want to associate with this offer.
      2. A preview thumbnail for your redeemable will appear along with its title and description.
    2. For Fixed Points
      1. Enter the exact amount of points to gift the guest in the Fixed Points field.
    3. For Gift Variable Points
      1. In the List of Guests field, enter the email addresses of the guests who will be gifted points in this campaign. After each email address, you must add ":##" to specify how many points that guest will be gifted. If you do not enter a number, the guest will not be gifted any points.
      2. For example, "alexis@punchh.com:100" means Alexis will be gifted 100 points, "john@punchh.com:50" will be gifted 50 points, but "tim@punchh.com" will not be gifted any points.
      3. Note: Any decimal point value entered will be rounded down; for example, 10.6 points = 10 points.
    4. For Currency
      1. Enter the exact currency amount to gift guests in the Gift Currency field.
      2. (Optional) Enter the Expiry (In Days) or the Explicit Date of Expiry to indicate when the gifted currency will expire. (This option overrides any default expiration settings your brand currently has set.)

If you want the currency to expire the same day, enter '1' for the Expiry (In Days) field, OR enter thesame date into the Explicit Date of Expiryfield. For example, if the campaign is set to deliver on 9/15/25 and you enter '1' into the Expiry (In Days) field, the currency would expire on 9/15/25 at 11:59 PM. The same is true if you had entered 9/15/25 in the Explicit Date field.

    1. For Gift Derived Rewards
      1. Click the Derived Reward drop-down to select the Derived Reward you associate with this offer.

Note: If you choose a gift redeemable, you have the option to schedule your non-recurring mass campaign within 24 hours of the redeemable's expiration time. (This does not apply to recurring campaigns.)

    • While the campaign is in a "scheduled" status, you will still be able to view or edit the redeemable details.
    • If the campaign is in a "processing" status, you will only be able to view the redeemable details.
    • You can only view/edit redeemables that have an expiration date via the End Time field, if Expiry Days is filled in this will not apply.
    • *If the redeemable is attached to any other campaign type that is currently running or scheduled to run, you will not be able to view/edit the redeemable.
    1. For Gift Collectible
You can also configure a combo gift — select both a redeemable and then a collectible to reward guests with both at the same time.
      1. Click the Collectible drop-down and select the digital collectible you want to award to guests.
      2. A preview of the selected collectible will appear.

Step 2 - Whom

Configure campaign settings such as audience targeting, qualification criteria, gifting frequency, and other options as described in the section below. Depending on your subscription to Punchh added modules, you may not see all of these settings.

If you wish to create a Mass Offer campaign with Split Testing, refer to the following documentation: Campaign Split Testing

Campaign Settings

  • Audience Type - Click the drop-down to choose from Segment-based targeting or Location-based targeting.

  • Location/Location Group - Use the drop-down to select a location/location group to limit this campaign to. Any guest who has ever performed a loyalty checkin at this location/location group will be targeted. If you don't specify a location(s), the campaign will be enabled for all locations.

  • Segment - Click the drop-down to select from one of your guest segments this offer will be targeted to.
The Potential Reach gauge will show you how many guests are in that segment that could potentially take part in this offer campaign.

  • Advertised Campaign - If you want to send out a mass notification advertising a Post Checkin Message or Offer Campaign, you can use this drop-down to select the one you want to link. You'll then tailor the rest of your mass notification message to hype that specific post checkin campaign. By advertising, you increase the chance that guests will complete the conditions required for a post checkin campaign they may not have been aware of. Additionally, by advertising your campaign only in specific locations or segments, you can measure the relative effectiveness of how mass notifications affect guest behavior/spend.

  • Control Group - Specify a percentage of guests who will be randomly excluded from receiving this offer. By creating a control group, you can gauge the effectiveness of your campaign. Did guests who received the offer spend more money and return more frequently? A control group can be added for all gift types.

Warning: When using a control group, ensure that your campaign is not advertised to the general public or some guests may be upset when they are excluded.

  • Survey - Use the drop-down to select one of your saved Surveys. This survey will trigger for a guest once they open the push notification message sent out with this campaign.

Messaging

Add messaging for each of the notification types you want to send. Refer to Campaign Message Options for full details

Click Next to move on to Step 3.

Step 3 - When

  1. Click the Frequency drop-down to choose how often a guest will receive this message.
    mceclip5.png

    1. Once: If you choose Once as the frequency and select Simultaneous global start, the Use Recommended Send Time option appears. When enabled, Send Time Optimization (STO) delivers your campaign messaging at the time each individual guest is most likely to engage, based on their activity history.

Note: Use Recommended Send Time is not available when Staggered start (based on recipient time zone) is selected

    2. Daily: Select Daily to send the campaign each day for a set period of time.
    3. Weekly: Select Weekly to send the campaign on a set day of the week.
      1. Repeat every: Enter how often you want the campaign to repeat. For example, if you want the campaign to run every 3 weeks, enter '3.'
      2. Day of the Week: Enter the day of the week the campaign should send.
    4. Monthly: Select Monthly to send the campaign once a month.
      1. Repeat every: Enter how often you want the campaign to repeat. For example, if you want the campaign to run every 3 months, enter '3.' You must enter a value in this field. If you want the campaign to run every month, enter '1.'
      2. Repeat on: Enter the count of the day the campaign should send. For example, if you want the campaign to run on the 1st Saturday of the month, enter '1'.
      3. Day of Week: Enter the day of the week the campaign should send. E.g. 'Saturday." You cannot use this field on its own. It must be configured along with the Repeat on field.
        -OR-
      4. Day of Month: Enter the date of the month the campaign should run. For example, if you want the campaign to run on the 13th of every month, select '13'. Use this field on its own; do not use it in combination with Repeat On and/or Day of the week.

When scheduling a Monthly campaign, there are two main ways to define when it should run. You should only choose one of the options below:

      • Repeat On + Day of Week, e.g., the 2nd Tuesday of each month
      • Day of the Month, e.g., the 15th of every month

If both are happen to be set, priority is given to the Day of the Week + Repeat On combination, and the system will ignore the Day of the Month altogether. This ensures the system doesn’t try to apply both rules at once, avoiding conflicts.

  2. Under Start Time, select one of the following options: alt text

    1. Simultaneous global start Sends the campaign at the same clock time for all guests. For example, a 9 AM start time reaches guests in New York at 9 AM Eastern and guests in California at 9 AM Eastern (6 AM Pacific).
      1. Select a Global Start Time and date when your campaign will beign.
      2. Use the Timezone drop-down to select the timezone used for scheduling.
    2. Staggered start (based on recipient time zone): Sends the campaign at the equivalent local time for each guest. For example, a 9 AM send reaches New Yorkers at 9 AM Eastern and Californians at 9 AM Pacific. The platform determines each guest's time zone based on their most recently visited loyalty check-in location.
      1. Click the Local Start Time field and choose the date and time you want guests to receive the campaign in their local time zone.
      2. Use the Fallback Timezone drop-down to select your brand's default timezone. This is used as the fallback send time for guests whose time zone cannot be determined.

Note: Staggered start (based on recipient time zone) is not available for Variable Points campaigns. If you're configuring a Variable Points campaign, only Simultaneous global start is available.

  3. End Time: If you choose to make this campaign recurring (daily, weekly, or monthly), your starting and ending time frames will reflect the start and end of the recurrence. In other words, if you choose Weekly, you'll choose the day of the week for it to be sent each week, beginning on the first occurrence of that weekday after your start date.

  4. Once you've finished with scheduling, you have the following options for finalizing your new campaign:

    1. Click Schedule to schedule your campaign to go live at your scheduled start date (or immediately if your start date is today).
    2. Click Save as Draft to save your campaign as a draft. All fields you've entered, including Step 3 scheduling details, are saved. You can reopen the draft from the Campaign List at any time to continue editing or schedule the campaign.
    3. Click Previous to go back and edit settings from the prior step.

Note: Save as Draft is not available after a campaign is scheduled. Once a campaign has been scheduled, you must deactivate it from the Campaign List to make further changes.

Deactivate a Mass Campaign

Mass Campaigns can be deactivated to stop a recurring campaign prior to its end date. This also applies to campaigns in Scheduled or Pending Approval status. To deactivate a mass campaign:

  1. Click the name of the campaign to enter its Campaign Summary page.
  2. Click the More Options drop-down menu and select Deactivate.
