Redemption Processing Order

Redemption Processing Order

Definition

With Redemptions 2.0, you can configure flexible redemption strategies for applying multiple discounts to a transaction.

Note: We apply discounts in a set order based on priority, not to give the biggest total savings. Some discounts can’t be combined due to system limitations.

Configuration Strategies

Multiple Redemptions must be enabled before enabling one of the below strategies.

Your brand can choose from the following processing order strategies. Work with your Punchh representative to determine the right strategy for your business. If you do not manually select one of the below strategies, "By Date of Expiry" will be turned on as the default.

By Date of Expiry

With this strategy, multiple redemptions within a single transaction will be processed based on the reward's date of expiration. The reward with the nearest expiration date will be processed first, and so on. In the case of two rewards having the same expiration date, whichever was created first (created date) will be processed first.

By Discount Type

This strategy allows you to create a priority list based on discount type or the type of reward. For example, you can choose to have all redeemables process first, followed by coupons, etc.  You will only choose from the discounts and rewards applicable to your loyalty program type. In case there are two of the same discount type, the processing order would then fall to discount expiry.

Possible discount types:

  • Reward: Gifted and campaign-related rewards
  • Discount_amount: Currency associated with loyalty activity
  • Coupon/Promo codes: Any discount that has been given via a coupon/promo campaign
  • Membership: Discount that can be purchased directly from the Punchh

By Acquisition Type

This strategy allows you to create a priority list based on acquisition type, or how the guest acquired the discount. For example, the guest acquired the reward through a loyalty earning, a membership, a coupon/promo, etc.

Acquisition Type is defined as follows:

  • Offers: Discounts sent via campaign; Not tied to points (rewards, redeemables gifted directly to guests, etc.)
  • Earned Rewards: Discounts acquired through loyalty activity (i.e., earned through points)
  • Codes: Coupon & promo codes. Typically gifted or earned through a campaign.
  • Purchased Discounts: Any discount that can be purchased directly from the Punchh platform, such as memberships.

Priority does not need to be set for all acquisition types, but must be set for at least one. (e.g., Earned Rewards has priority over all other types.) In case there are two of the same acquisition type OR only one acquisition type has priority, the processing order would then fall to discount type (if set up) and then discount expiry, as needed.
