PAR Games: Campaign Distribution

Games created in the PAR Games dashboard can be distributed to guests using Punchh campaigns. This gives you complete control over when and how often a game is distributed, as well as who receives the game.

Games can only be distributed through Punchh campaigns if they are using the Dynamic JWT or Direct URL deployment method. Ensure the game you are linking to in the campaign is configured for one of these deployment methods.

Choosing the Campaign

You can use almost any Punchh campaign to distribute a game. There are a few factors to consider when determining which campaign you want to use:

  1. Why/when is the guest receiving the game? Are all guests receiving the game at the same time, or does the guest have to do something to trigger the game distribution?
  2. How many times can the guest play the game? Can each guest only play once, or can they play multiple times?
  3. Which guests are receiving the game? Do you want all guests to receive the game, or only certain guests?
  4. What rewards are guests receiving? Do you want guests to receive a reward before the game in addition to any prizes/rewards earned in the game, or do you want guests to only receive the reward earned in the game?
    1. In many cases, you may only want to gift the reward resulting from the guest's engagement with the game. In this scenario, you would want to make sure the campaign you select can be configured without offers.

For a breakdown of all the campaign types and how to create them, please refer to the Campaign Management article.

Campaign Configurations for PAR Games Distribution

Most of the configurations for the campaign can be set up depending on your brand's needs and strategies. However, there are some specific configurations needed to distribute a game, as well as some optional configurations to be aware of.

Segment

Available in Step 2 of the campaign creation process. Configure the segment based on who you want to distribute the game to. For maximum engagement, include as many guests as possible in the segment.

Frequency/Guest Frequency

Available in either Step 2 (Guest Frequency) or Step 3 (Frequency) of the campaign creation process depending on the campaign type selected. Configure the frequency/guest frequency based on how often you want users to be able to receive the game link.

  • Frequency: Select the frequency that you want the campaign to be distributed: Once, Daily, Weekly, or Monthly.
  • Guest Frequency: If you want guests to only receive the game link once, select Only Once Ever. If you want guests to be able to receive the game link multiple times, select Multiple Times.

Make sure the Guest Frequency selected here aligns with the configurations set under Play Control for your game. If the campaign is configured to be distributed multiple times but Allow Repeat Play is not enabled in the game campaign, guests will receive the game link but will be unable to play again. Reach out to your PAR Games representative if you have questions regarding these configurations.

Messaging

This is where you will add your game URL to distribute the game to guests. You can set up most of the messaging based on your brand strategy, but the game URL must be added here for proper distribution.

Currently, games using the Dynamic JWT deployment method can only be distributed through Punchh campaigns using email. Games using the Direct URL deployment method can be distributed through SMS, email, or Rich Messages.

SMS

Only Direct URLs can be distributed using SMS messaging. To distribute the game link through SMS, simply add the game's URL to the SMS Body field along with the rest of the SMS message. This message should encourage guests to play the game while connecting back to the campaign's purpose.

  1. PAR Games Dashboard: From the Summary section of the game campaign, copy the Game URL located at the top of the page
  2. Punchh Platform: Navigate to Step 2 within your Punchh campaign and add the game's URL to the SMS Body field along with the rest of the SMS message
    1. This message should encourage guests to play the game while connecting back to the campaign's purpose
      1. For example, if you are using a Checkin Campaign to send guests the game after a checkin, your SMS message could say "It was great to see you, now let's see if you're a big winner! Click this link to play our Big Win Spinner: https://games.partech.com/direct/big-win-spinner"
  3. Finish setting up the campaign/messaging and complete any necessary testing

Email

Direct URLs and Dynamic JWT URLs can both be distributed using email. To distribute the game link through email, the game URL needs to be added to the email editor/template.

  1. PAR Games Dashboard: From the Summary section of the game campaign, copy the Game URL located at the top of the page
    1. For Dynamic JWT URLs, copy the URL through "token="
    2. For Dynamic JWT URLs, paste this URL into a text editor, add "{{{game_jwt_token}}}" to the end, and copy this new URL
      1. For example, the above URL would become https://games.partech.com/myplay/btg-slots-3-reel/index.html?token={{{game_jwt_token}}}
  2. Punchh Platform: Navigate to Step 2 within your Punchh campaign and add the URL to your email editor/template where desired
  3. Finish setting up the campaign/messaging and complete any necessary testing

Rich Message

Only Direct URLs can be distributed using Rich Messages. To distribute the game link through Rich Messages, the game URL will need to be added to either the primary or secondary call-to-action. For detailed instructions on setting up rich messaging, please refer to the Rich Messaging article.

  1. PAR Games Dashboard: From the Summary section of the game campaign, copy the Game URL located at the top of the page
  2. Punchh Platform: Navigate to Step 2 within your Punchh campaign and enable Configure Rich Message?
  3. Configure the message's Hero Content, Text Content, and Background Content
  4. Under Rich Message - Call To Actions, choose either the primary or secondary call-to-action to include the game URL
    1. Type: Internal Web Link
    2. Link: Paste the game URL into this field
    3. Label: This can be anything, but should indicate to the guest that this will lead to the game
      1. Suggested text: "Play the Game", "Click Here to Play", or something similar
  5. Finish setting up the campaign/messaging and complete any necessary testing

Activate Campaign

Once your game is live, you can activate the campaign you created to distribute the game. Guests will receive the game immediately or after a checkin/redemption/etc. based on the campaign selected.
