Open Cart Fees in Order Desk
Overview
The Open Cart Fee is an automatic service fee added to orders you create in the Order Desk. It appears as its own line item in the order summary — separate from taxes, delivery fees, and gratuity. No setup is required; the fee is available by default in the Order Desk checkout.
How It Works
The Open Cart Fee is applied automatically when all of the following conditions are met:
| Condition | Detail |
|---|---|
| Channel | The order is created through the Order Desk (by a catering manager). The fee does not apply to orders placed through web, mobile app, or kiosk channels. |
| Order Type | Catering Delivery or Catering Pickup |
| Store | Available to all stores by default |
Fee Calculation
The fee is configured as one of the following:
- Flat amount: A fixed dollar amount added once per order (for example, "$1.50 per order")
- Percentage: A percentage of the order subtotal, calculated on items and modifiers before tax and delivery (for example, "3%")
Contact your PAR Ordering representative if you have questions about how the Open Cart Fee is configured on your account.
Where to Find It
The Open Cart Fee appears in two places:
- Order Desk order builder: Displayed as its own line item under the order summary, for example, "Service Fee."
- Customer receipt and confirmation email: Listed alongside taxes and delivery fees using the same label.
What the Open Cart Fee Is Not

| A tip or gratuity | Gratuity is added by the guest separately. |
| A tax | Taxes appear in their own breakdown. |
| A surcharge tied to payment method | The fee applies regardless of how the guest pays. |
| Applied to web, mobile, or kiosk orders | The Open Cart Fee is specific to orders created through the Order Desk. |
