How to Use Automatic POS Sync During Menu Distribution and Publish
Automatic POS Sync During Menu Distribution and Publish
When a menu is distributed or published to one or more stores, a POS price and availability sync is automatically queued for each store in scope.
Operators no longer need to trigger the sync manually or wait up to 30 minutes for the next scheduled cycle for the menu to be live for ordering.
Automatic POS Sync Behavior
Automatic POS Sync ensures that menu changes are synchronized with the POS system whenever a menu is distributed or published.
When a menu distribution or publish operation completes, the platform automatically queues a POS price and availability synchronization job for each store included in the operation.
This synchronization occurs in the background and does not require any manual action from operators.
The feature applies automatically to all supported POS integrations and all stores. No configuration, feature toggle, or opt-in process is required.
If a store is offline or unreachable when the synchronization job is triggered, the store is skipped at that time and receives the changes during a subsequent successful synchronization.
How Automatic POS Sync Works
- When menu distribution completes, a POS sync job is automatically queued for every store in the distribution scope.
- When a menu is published, a POS sync job is automatically queued for every store in the publish scope.
- Distribution and publishing each trigger their own independent sync if both actions occur.
- Offline or unreachable stores are silently skipped at the time of the trigger. No error is displayed on the publishing page.
- Skipped stores receive the changes during the next successful sync.
No configuration or feature toggle is required.
The behavior applies automatically to all stores and all supported POS integrations after deployment.
Where to View Automatic Syncs
Sync jobs triggered by menu distribution or publishing appear on the store-level POS Synchronization page with the type Automatic. Like all sync runs, they show a change count. Click the count to review what pricing and availability changes the sync applied.
Navigate to:
Store > Menu > POS Synchronization
PAR Ordering keeps change data for the five most recent sync runs per store. If a store syncs frequently, automatic sync records and their change data may be replaced as newer runs complete. For the full sync history, go to the store-level POS Synchronization page.
Frequently Asked Questions
If I distribute and then immediately publish, will two syncs fire?
Yes. Distribution and publishing each trigger their own independent sync.
In practice, both complete quickly and the POS reconciles any overlap according to its normal processing logic.
A store was offline when I distributed. Will it sync when it comes back online?
Not automatically from the distribution event. Offline stores are skipped silently at trigger time and will receive the changes during the next scheduled 30-minute sync after the store becomes reachable.
You can also trigger a manual sync from the POS Synchronization page at any time.
Will this affect how long distribution or publishing takes?
No. The POS sync is queued in the background.
Distribution and publishing complete independently while the sync runs asynchronously.
The synchronization process does not delay the distribution or publishing workflow.
Where do I go if the sync fails for a store?
Navigate to:
Store > POS > POS Synchronization
Failed or missed syncs are displayed there and can be retried manually.
Do I need to do anything to turn this on?
No. The behavior is enabled by default for all brands and stores.
No toggle, opt-in process, or configuration is required.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | First Thing to Check |
|---|---|
| No "Automatic" sync visible on the POS Synchronization page after distributing or publishing | Confirm the store was online and reachable at trigger time. Offline stores are skipped silently. Trigger a manual sync from the POS Synchronization page if needed. |
| Menu still not available for ordering at a store after distribution and automatic sync | Verify that the sync completed successfully on the POS Synchronization page. If the sync failed, retry it manually. Also confirm that the menu is in Published status in the Management Center. |
| Manually triggered syncs are no longer appearing | Manual syncs are unchanged and continue to appear under their original sync type. If they are missing entirely, escalate to Engineering. |
| Scheduled 30-minute sync appears to have stopped running | The scheduled sync is not affected by this feature. If scheduled syncs are missing, escalate to Engineering because the issue is unrelated to Automatic POS Sync. |
| An Automatic sync shows unexpected availability changes | An item may have failed POS sync qualification (for example, a missing price or mapping). Go to Store > Menu > POS Synchronization, click the change count for that run, and review the Availability changes section. |
