Rule-Based DSP Selection

Overview

When your DSP Hub has more than one delivery service partner (DSP) enabled, the system allows you to select a strategy to determine which provider handles each delivery. The DSP Bidding Configuration lets you control this selection by choosing a strategy that best fits your business priorities - whether that’s minimizing delivery costs, reducing delivery times, or prioritizing a preferred partner.

This configuration is found in the Settings tab of any DSP Hub and applies automatically to all order types that involve multiple delivery providers, including first-party delivery and catering delivery.

Prerequisites

The DSP selection strategy section is only available when the following conditions are met:

  • The Delivery Service Partners feature is enabled at the product enablement level.
  • At least one store group has a DSP purpose assigned.
  • More than one delivery resource is selected under the Delivery Resources section in the hub’s Settings tab.

If only one delivery resource is selected, the DSP selection strategy section will not appear, as no selection logic is needed.

Accessing DSP Bidding Configuration

To access the DSP selection strategy settings:

  1. Navigate to Dispatch in the left-hand menu.
  2. Select DSP Hubs.
  3. Choose the hub you want to configure.
  4. Click the Settings tab.
  5. Under the General section, locate DSP selection strategy.

Selection Strategies

Three selection strategies are available. Choose the one that aligns with your delivery priorities. The active strategy determines how the system selects a DSP when making quote calls when multiple providers are available.

Strategy How It Works Best For
Cheapest Delivery The system compares delivery fee estimates from all enabled providers and selects the one offering the lowest cost. Businesses looking to minimize delivery expenses across a high volume of orders.
Fastest Delivery The system compares estimated delivery times from all enabled providers and selects the one with the shortest delivery window. Businesses that prioritize speed and customer experience over cost.
Preferred DSP The system prioritizes the provider you select as preferred. Other providers are used only as a fallback when the preferred partner has no available drivers or an integration error occurs. Businesses with a strategic partnership or negotiated rate with a specific delivery provider.

Preferred DSP: Additional Details

When you select Preferred DSP as your strategy, an additional selection list appears showing all delivery providers currently configured in the hub. Choose one provider as your preferred partner.

The system will route delivery requests to your preferred DSP first. It will fall back to other enabled providers only in the following situations:

  • No driver available: The preferred DSP has no drivers available to fulfill the delivery at the requested time.
  • Integration error: A technical issue prevents the system from connecting to the preferred DSP.

Use the Preferred DSP strategy when you have a contractual relationship or negotiated rates with a specific delivery partner and want to maximize order volume with that provider.

Scope of Application

The DSP selection strategy you configure applies globally across all order types that involve multiple delivery providers within the hub. This includes:

  • First-party delivery orders dispatched through enabled DSPs.
  • Catering delivery orders assigned to DSPs through the Catering Delivery Hub.

Changing the selection strategy affects all future deliveries for the hub immediately. Existing in-progress deliveries are not affected.
