How to Send Test Notifications from a Campaign

Effective marketing starts with testing. Before launching your campaign, send test messages to ensure everything looks just right—clear, engaging, typo-free, and with links that work. This quick guide shows you how to test your messaging, so it lands exactly as intended.

A few notes to keep in mind before you start sending test notifications from your campaign:

  • Ensure the email(s) you’ll be sending test messaging to are associated with existing loyalty accounts and are subscribed to the proper messaging channels. If the email isn’t associated with a loyalty account and/or is not subscribed to messaging, they will not receive test messages.
  • When sending test messages in a campaign, you can only send them to one account at a time. However, you can use a distribution email if you want to send it to multiple users at once.
  • If you don’t see a test email in your inbox, check your spam or quarantine folder first. Here is an article from SendGrid covering best practices to prevent your emails from going to spam.
  • If you’re testing dynamic tags in your messaging, keep in mind that some dynamic tags may not populate values in the test message when sent. This is because Punchh doesn’t know what details to fetch for a test notification when using some tags.
  • Some campaign types, like post checkin campaigns, don’t include the functionality to send test notifications from step 2 of the campaign setup. There are a couple options to test the messaging in this case:
    • You can add the messaging to a mass notification campaign and send a test notification from there.
    • You can duplicate your post checkin campaign and use a test segment with test barcodes to trigger the campaign.

Here are step-by-step instructions for sending test notifications.
